Cyberabad Police have arrested 45 people and seized electronic equipment in a nationwide crackdown on cyber fraud. The arrests were made in connection with 25 cybercrime cases involving several forms of digital fraud in a three-week operation between July 1 and 22.
The crimes consisted of various scams, including bogus part-time job offers, matrimonial scams, business impersonation, customer care impersonation, digital arrest fraud, and vishing (when fraudsters pose as officials to steal information over the phone).
Cyberabad police also secured 153 court orders to refund money to victims in these cases, totaling 99.14 lakh in 40 separate cases. Officials say cyber fraud has risen sharply in the region and urge people to stay alert when online.
Investigations into other linked networks are still ongoing, with authorities urging the public to report suspicious activity.
