UAB's New Inpatient Rehab Facility: A Cutting-Edge Healing Environment

Birmingham's UAB Medical System has just opened a new inpatient rehabilitation facility, furthering its ability to provide world-class care to therapy patients. The $157 million dollar, state-of-the-art building is equipped with all the latest healing resources and technology.

The UAB Medicine Rehabilitation Pavilion aims to help a variety of patients, with an emphasis on neurorehabilitation, making it an essential part of recovery for patients dealing with strokes, brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, and more. The facility was built with the goal of creating a hopeful and healing environment for both patients and their families, with spacious therapy areas and an outdoor area.

The Madrid Rehabilitation Center, which has been operating since 1964, will be focusing on outpatient rehabilitation patients. The new facility has an awe-inspiring view of the Birmingham cityscape, with floor-to-ceiling windows in most areas, and Alabama-themed artwork scattered throughout the building. Topgun, UAB's first facility dog, will also be continuing his work, bringing joy and helping with therapy.

"Much more than a building, it represents our promise to patients and their families that we will continue to advance and improve our programs and services to help heal the body and mind," said Sarah D. Steinberg, PhD, CCC-SLP, vice president of UAB Health Services.

UAB is committed to providing the best recovery resources to its patients and has taken another step forward with this new state-of-the-art facility.
