China's Foreign Minister Encourages Improved Relations with India

In a significant development, China's State Councillor and Foreign Minister, Wang Yi, has urged India and Pakistan to overcome their differences and work together as partners, rather than view each other as threats. This message was delivered in Islamabad on Sunday, ahead of his trip to Delhi on Monday, January 23, 2023. It marks the 75th anniversary of IndiaChina relations.

Speaking in Islamabad, Wang Yi stated, "China proposes that India and Pakistan should stay committed to the direction of peaceful coexistence and mutual benefit. They should overcome differences, relax tensions and boost mutual trust." He further emphasized that India and Pakistan should work collectively to find a fair and reasonable solution to the Kashmir dispute.

This significant diplomatic move by China to mediate between India and Pakistan comes at a time of heightened tensions between the two South Asian neighbours, with ongoing conflicts concerning Kashmir and cross-border attacks.

It remains to be seen whether Wang Yi's proposal will achieve the desired result of improving IndiaChinaPakistan relations. Nonetheless, his initiative reflects the potential for greater cooperation and stability in the region.
