TDP says it will continue volunteer system

Vijayawada: The TDP distanced itself from comments made by Srikalahasti TDP candidate Bojjala Sudheer Reddy, who reportedly compared volunteers to terrorists. On Tuesday, TDP clarified that these remarks were his personal opinion and not the stance of the party. TDP state president K Atchannaidu emphasized that the TDP government would continue the volunteer system and assured volunteers of improved honorariums and other benefits. Atchannaidu further explained that Sudheer Reddy’s comments were directed at certain volunteers who had allegedly colluded with YSRC MLA B Madhusudhan Reddy and engaged in illegal activities, not at the volunteer system itself. He stated that volunteers should adhere to the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) and refrain from involvement in any political activities. The TDP president also highlighted that over 200 volunteers across the state are facing criminal charges and jeopardizing their future by aligning with the ruling party. He reassured volunteers that if TDP forms the government, they will continue in their roles and receive better opportunities and working conditions. Meanwhile, former Chief Minister and TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu promised village and ward volunteers that if TDP is voted to power, they will be provided better jobs, skill training, and opportunities to earn Rs 30,000 to Rs 50,000 per month. Naidu also announced plans to introduce a new policy for the volunteer system and stated that the pension amount would be increased to Rs 4,000, to be disbursed at the doorstep. The YSRC government had introduced the village and ward volunteer system, where one volunteer is assigned to every 50 households to distribute pensions and other welfare benefits. Currently, the state government provides Rs 5,000 per month as honorarium to the volunteers.
