Last night, Dhanashree Verma made a statement to a news agency, reacting to Yuzvendra Chahal's T-shirt stunt during their divorce hearing. "I feel embarrassed to think that people might perceive this as an act of feminism. This is not feminism, it is a pure attention seeker's move."
The incident in question occurred during a virtual hearing for the couple's divorce proceedings on Tuesday, Nov. 29, in which Chahal could be seen wearing a "Be Your Own Sugar Daddy" T-shirt.
Dhanashree, a dentist-turned-content creator, and Chahal, who has played for the Indian national team, were married for three years before their public split in August 2022. They were reportedly planning to file for divorce for past six months, and their lawyer informed the court that they have already reached a mutual settlement regarding property and alimony.
"I have no words to explain why would he do this," added Dhanashree in her statement. "Are bhai WhatsApp kar lete ya na kar lete, shayad yeh kuch aur hua hai (Maybe he was busy on WhatsApp, or maybe he didn't pick up the call). These kinds of things don't define us, and these are not the parameters of a healthy relationship."
Chahal has not yet responded to Dhanashree's comments.
The couple's divorce has been making headlines for weeks, and their hearing has been adjourned until Dec. 6.
Despite their impending divorce, Dhanashree still considers herself a "proud ex-wife" and hopes to collaborate with Chahal professionally in the future.
"Our relationship has ended, but we will always be part of each other's lives," she said. "I wish him all the best for everything he does, and I hope we can collaborate on something in the future because we have worked really hard for so many years."
