Punjab Police disrupt ISI-backed weapons and narcotics ring

In a significant crackdown, the Punjab Police, in collaboration with central intelligence agencies, have reportedly dismantled a major cross-border arms and narcotics smuggling ring allegedly supported by Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). The operation, led by the Amritsar Rural Police, targeted an organised network suspected of funneling weapons and drug profits into India from across the border.

The seized cache included an AK Saiga 308 assault rifle, two Glock 9mm pistols, ninety live cartridges for the AK rifle, ten live 9mm cartridges, and INR 7.5 lakh in suspected drug proceeds. The accused allegedly maintained contact with ISI handlers in Pakistan and were linked to notorious gangster Jaggu Bhagwanpuria, who is believed to be a key influencer for the Lawrence Bishnoi crime syndicate.

The recent seizures are added to the string of seizures of heroin coming in from Pakistan. Just a day before, authorities intercepted a cross-border heroin smuggling module near Attari, capturing four suspects linked to Pakistani smugglers who were transporting 4 kilograms of heroin across the India-Pakistan border.

In the wake of these recent events, the Punjab Police have pledged to take a zero-tolerance policy against terrorism and organised crime. These moves aim to ensure regional stability and security.
