Arvind Kejriwal's arrest 'catalyzed' AAP's electoral success, says Atishi

One instance of political opposition harassment that stands out was Arvind Kejriwal's arrest during the Lok Sabha elections in 2024. When asked if she thought the AAP's political future was over at that point, Atishi, the party's former spokesperson, remembers feeling determined, saying, "Whatever may happen now, we will fight against the BJP till our last breath."

Atishi Mallik, the Deputy Chief Minister of the Delhi Government, has reflected on the arrest of her party's leader Arvind Kejriwal, which she says "catalyzed" the AAP's electoral success in the 2023 Delhi assembly polls.

The BJP's nationwide offensive against the AAP and its leaders, including the incarceration of Kejriwal and other top figures, which occurred during the Lok Sabha elections in 2024, appears to have backfired. The BJP, which has been in power in the national capital for the last eight years, saw its vote share drop to 38 percent, despite extensive campaigning by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah.
