Optimistic Umran Malik is fit and raring to make a comeback to competitive cricket having last played top-flight cricket in IPL 2024. The 22-year-old tearaway bowler, who can clock deliveries at 150 kmph, said the excitement of playing for India never fades. "I am working on developing 3-4 new variations. I am very excited about my future and the opportunities that are coming my way. I am working really hard. Whenever I get an opportunity, I will do well," Umran told PTI in an interview.

The Jammu pacer, who impressed in the IPL and with the India A team, is part of the core probables group for the Indian team. He is currently in South Africa, gearing up for the upcoming international series. Reflecting on his journey so far, Umran said he aspires to learn from the senior pacers in the Indian set-up.

"When I came to the IPL, I was raw. I have learned a lot and I am still learning. I am trying to talk to senior players and pick their brains. Whatever I have learned, I try to implement it," he said.

"When I came into the India A set-up, I was with senior players -- Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar. I learned a lot from them. When I got the opportunity to play, I tried to focus on whatever was told to me," he added.

Umran, who was reportedly clocked at 151 kmph against Gujarat in the Vijay Hazare Trophy in March, said he has always focused on the mental aspect of his game and it's beginning to pay dividends.

"I have worked on my mental aspect a lot. I have become more confident. When I entered the IPL, I was a bit scared, a bit nervous. But now the confidence has increased," he said.

"The facilities and infrastructure provided to Indian players are great. They can focus only on cricket. My mindset has become stronger. When I came into the IPL, I was a bit hesitant to ask questions but now I am comfortable," he concluded.
