US Open: Errani-Vavassori Take Home Mixed Doubles Title

The Italian duo of Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori defended their mixed doubles title at the 2022 US Open on Thursday, defeating an exciting younger team in the finals. Ranked at 341 and 1131 respectively, Errani and Vavassori showcased their experience and prowess to take down the Polish-Norwegian pairing of Iga Swiatek and Casper Ruud. The decisive match went the distance, with the Italians narrowly winning 6-3, 5-7, 10-6.

This was the fifth time in Swiatek's career that the reigning French Open women's singles champion had participated in the New York tournament's mixed doubles event. Despite dropping the final, Swiatek said she would continue to play mixed events in the future. "I really like mixed doubles. I think it's really fun. I'm always super excited when I have one of these matches," said Swiatek.

For Ruud, this was his first time participating in the mixed doubles draw at Flushing Meadows. The 2022 Norwegian champion spoke highly of his partnering with Swiatek, stating that it was "an amazing experience."

After their win, Errani and Vavassor were presented with their new trophies. They both exclaimed that they were "really happy" with the outcome. This marks the Italians' second championship at the US Open, their first win coming in 2018. With their proven track record, Errani and Vavassor will surely continue to be formidable contenders in future mixed doubles events.
