Google is rollingout a new AI-powered feature called ‘Daily Listen,’ designed to provide userswith a five-minute audio summary of personalized news stories and topics. Thefeature uses AI to generate an audio rundown based on a user’s Discover feedand search history. Along with the audio, Daily Listen includes an AI-generatedtranscript and cover art for each summary.
Currently availablefor both Android and iOS users in the United States, Daily Listen can beactivated through the Search Labs section in the Google app by clicking on thetriangular beaker icon in the top-left corner.
Once enabled, userswill see the ‘Made for You’ Daily Listen card in the Space carousel just belowthe Google Search bar. Tapping on the card opens a full-screen player, whereusers can provide feedback by giving a thumbs up or thumbs down. The feature alsooffers controls to play, pause, rewind, or mute the audio for a more customizedlistening experience.
In addition to DailyListen, Google continues to expand its AI-driven offerings. In September 2024,the company launched NotebookLM’s Audio Overviews, which converts documentsinto 10-minute podcasts featuring AI hosts. These hosts summarize the content, connect related topics, and engage in dynamic conversations. Recently, Googleenhanced this feature with an upgrade that allows users to interact with the AIhosts during the podcast by asking questions or requesting clarifications.
According to Google, this AI-powered experience is akin to having a personal tutor or guide, responding to user queries with detailed explanations derived from the sourcematerial. NotebookLM uses Google's Gemini 1.5 Pro and the experimental versionof Gemini 2.0 Flash for its advanced capabilities.
