India's Emerging Tech Job Market Set for 20% Growth in 2025

The Indian IT sectoris on track for significant growth in the coming years, with emergingtechnologies set to drive a 20% increase in new job opportunities by 2025,according to Human Resources platform FirstMeridian Business Services. Thesurge in demand for new tech talent follows a strong 17% rise in employmentwithin the Indian IT and tech sectors in 2024, which was fueled by digitaltransformation and the growing need for specialized roles in emergingtechnologies.

FirstMeridian's CEOof IT Staffing, Sunil Nehra, noted that after a slower first half of the year,the sector gained momentum and anticipates continued growth. This trend isexpected to extend into 2025, particularly in roles such as applicationdevelopers, software engineers, DevOps engineers, and experts in AI, machinelearning (ML), and cybersecurity.

AI, a key area offocus in 2024, is projected to accelerate further in 2025. The demand forprofessionals in data-related roles, including data analysts, data engineers,and data scientists, is expected to see substantial growth. Nehra alsohighlighted that the generative AI industry is set to create a staggering 1million new job opportunities by 2028, significantly contributing to thenational economy.

Salaries in the AIsector, particularly for positions like Generative AI engineers, Algorithmengineers, and AI security specialists, are expected to increase by 25-30% formid-level roles, reflecting the growing value of these specialized positions.The rapid hiring surge is aligned with businesses' expansion, new projects, andthe advancement of digital infrastructure, particularly in Global CapabilityCenters (GCCs), which created over 600,000 jobs between 2018-2024 and areexpected to employ 2.5 to 2.8 million professionals by 2030.

The banking,financial services, insurance (BFSI), and telecom sectors are also anticipatedto increase their intake of IT and tech talent in 2025. Nehra emphasized theimportance of upskilling to keep pace with this evolving IT landscape. He notedthat large enterprises and mid-sized companies are expected to boost theirupskilling budgets by 15-20% in 2025 to cultivate a robust workforce.

Moreover, the IndianIT gig economy is projected to triple in size by 2030, employing 24 millionpeople. This growth highlights the increasing demand for flexible,project-based talent solutions, with a balanced distribution of jobs betweentier I and II cities.

While the IT sectorstabilizes, challenges remain, such as talent shortages in AI andcybersecurity, as well as the effects of global economic instabilities. Nehrapointed out that while initiatives like Digital India and Skill India areimportant, further strategies to upskill the workforce and enhance its valueamid economic pressures are crucial for the next phase of technologicaladvancement.
