Couple Arrested, Rs. 4 Crores Worth of Marijuana Seized at Bhubaneswar Airport

A major narcotics bust occurred at the Biju Patnaik International Airport in Bhubaneswar over the weekend. Officials from the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) confiscated marijuana valued at over Rs 4 crore.

The drug was being transported from Bangkok to Bhubaneswar and was intercepted by customs officials during a routine check. Acting on intelligence inputs, officials recovered the narcotics, concealed in the luggage of two passengers who had arrived on an international flight. They were detained for further questioning.

The couple, a 35-year-old man, and a 32-year-old woman, both from Punjab, are being interrogated to determine the source of the consignment and the extent of the smuggling operation. Officials are seeking to identify potential collaborators within India and abroad.

This incident sheds light on the necessity of heightened checks at airports to prevent drug trafficking. Furthermore, it underscores the importance of continued vigilance in tackling illicit drug networks operating at international levels.
