Narcotics Control Bureau faces 'legal action' threat from hotelier

The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) Zonal Director, Sameer Wankhede, has written to Mumbai Police Commissioner Hemant Nagrale, asking for protection from hotelier and activist Vinay Deshmukh. The hotelier has been alleging that the NCB is harassing him and his daughter, actress Shahana Goswami, who have both been involved with drug cases.

In his letter, which has been accessed by multiple outlets, Wankhede claims that Deshmukh had issued a video on social media platforms on November 26, saying that he would "take legal action" against the NCB chief.

Last month, theNCB conducted a raid at the residence of Shah Rukh Khan and collected several items including narcotics substances and cash. Soon after the raid, Shahana Goswami's father, Vinay Deshmukh, alleged that the NCB officials had stolen drugs from the actor's house and planted them in his daughter's car.

NCB has maintained that the raid at Shah Rukh Khan's property was based on "solid information" provided by its informants, and that the allegations against them are "baseless and motivated."

In his letter, Wankhede has also alleged that Deshmukh has been "harassing" and "threatening" him and his family and that the hotelier had posted their pictures on social media platforms along with "defamatory and baseless comments."

The NCB has been making headlines over the past few months after multiple drugs arrests and raids became public, including those of actors Rhea Chakraborty and Shahana Goswami.

The Mumbai Police chief said he would ensure "necessary action" on Wankhede's request for security, adding that the police would do all it could to protect the NCB Zonal Director.

Until the truth emerges, these allegations and conflicts will likely continue to involve more public figures and create headlines.
