The IRCTC app and website faced a major outage on Thursday morning, leaving users unable to book tickets. The issue, which marks the second outage this month, has sparked widespread frustration, particularly among passengers attempting to secure Tatkal tickets.
This is the second time IRCTC has faced an outage this month. Previously, the e-ticketing platform underwent a scheduled one-hour maintenance on December 9. However, today’s unexpected outage caused significant outrage among passengers trying to book Tatkal tickets, which are available one day before the train’s departure from the originating station. The Tatkal booking timings are: 10 AM for AC classes and 11 AM for non-AC classes.
Many users raised concerns about potential scams and cited maintenance issues as a recurring problem. Upon attempting to access the platform, users were greeted with an error message stating, "Unable to perform action due to maintenance activity."
Downdetector, a platform that monitors online outages, reported a significant spike in complaints during the incident. Despite the growing discontent, IRCTC has not yet issued an official statement addressing the disruption.
The outage triggered a wave of criticism on social media, with users voicing their grievances. One user tweeted:
“@RailMinIndia @AshwiniVaishnaw @PMOIndia when will this fraud stop? Every day at 10 AM, the IRCTC website crashes. By the time it reopens, all Tatkal tickets are gone, leaving only premium tickets at double the price. This looks like a clear scam by @IRCTCofficial @raghav_chadha.”
Another user expressed frustration, saying,
"India reached the moon, but the Indian Railways ticket booking app can't handle Tatkal booking without crashing. It's 2024, and a stable server shouldn't be rocket science!"
Passengers are eagerly awaiting a response from IRCTC regarding the persistent outages and their impact on the ticket booking experience.
