A speeding truck rammed an auto rickshaw throwing itand its pilgrims insideinto a stream in Andhra Pradesh, India, last night, with five passengers now missing. The accident happened on a bridge in Sangem village at around 9.30 pm when 12 pilgrims were traveling to pray at the local Lord Siva temple. As the auto rickshaw was passing on a bridge on Beera Peru stream, a truck coming from the opposite direction hit the auto rickshaw, throwing it into the stream below. The accident likely occurred due to the truck driver speeding and the bridge being in a state of disrepair.
Local villagers rescued seven people, but the others were washed away in the swirling waters. Due to the late hour, the search operation is challenging. One passenger is in critical condition and has been transferred to the government hospital at Atmakur. The accident is a tragic reminder of the deteriorating road conditions in the region.
