In a disturbing incident, the house of a former Andhra Pradesh legislator was vandalised after he made misogynistic remarks against a woman legislator. The woman legislator, who is also the wife of a TDP MP, was subjected to vicious personal attacks, with the former MLA claiming she married the MP after blackmailing him, and that she had a "PhD in different towns and cities." He also made lewd comments about her personality, adding that she was "lucky" to have married a wealthy man.

The disturbing incident happened in Nellore on Monday, July 7. The former MLA, Nallapareddy Prasanna Kumar Reddy, made the remarks in response to the woman legislator, Vemireddy Prashanti Reddy's previous criticisms of him. When he made the comments, he was reportedly surrounded by supporters, who cheered him on.

After the comments, a group of men broke into Prasanna's house while he was away with his family, damaging furniture, glassware, and two cars parked outside. The men, who were reportedly drunk, also broke the CCTV cameras. While Prasanna's family was unharmed, the attack highlights the increasing violence and misogyny tolerated in Indian politics.

Responding to the incident, the TDP general secretary Nara Lokesh, the CM's son, tweeted that "Do YSRCP leaders hate women so much? ..." He condemned the incident and highlighted the lack of security for women in the state.

Moreover, Pawan Kalyan, the Jana Sena Party chief also condemned the former MLA's comments against the woman legislator.

With accusations of corruption and personal attacks now flying back and forth, it remains to be seen what the next step will be.
