AP municipal election results: YSRCP wins 14 wards in Kuppam, sweeps Penukonda municipality - updates

Andhra Pradesh counted ballots Monday in municipal polls that favored the ruling Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) in the southern state.

Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has commended Panchayat Raj Minister Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy for the YSRCP victory in Kuppam municipality.

Kuppam falls in the Chittoor district and is the hometown of former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) president N Chandrababu Naidu.

TDP general secretary Lokesh alleged that outsiders were brought to vote illegally, causing tensions on voting day. He accused police of failing to prevent electoral malpractices and criticized their role.

Out of 54 divisions, YSRCP is ahead in 36. The party won 10 of 20 seats in Jaggayyapet, 11 of 20 wards in Dachepalli (Guntur district), and 18 of 20 wards in Penukonda (Anantapur district).

YSRCP also won in Akiveedu, Kodapalli, Buchireddypalem, Bethamcherla, Kamalapuram, and Rajampet municipalities.

The TDP was ahead in Darsi municipality in the Prakasam district.
