In a bid to uplift the living standards of street vendors and follow the directives of both the State and Central governments, the municipal administration is proposing to establish Small Street Bazars (SSBs) in Nellore city soon. The innovative concept, already existing abroad, is the brainchild of MA&UD Minister P Narayana, who proposed its implementation in Nellore city on an experimental basis.
The municipal administration has decided to establish 200 SSBs at Satyanarayana Puram area in the city.
As per sources, the government has set up a Town Vending Committee (TVC) chaired by Nellore Municipal Commissioner Surya Teja to ensure the success of the programme.
SSBs will allow people to purchase all kinds of groceries and eat at small tiffin centres all in one place.
The government will provide infrastructure facilities such as solar power connections, parking spaces, and more.
People can also enjoy breakfast, lunch, and dinner at affordable prices inside container eateries.
This initiative will avoid traffic congestion on busy roads in the city, which is currently common on busy areas like Chinna Bazar, Trunk Road, AC Vegetable Market, Atmakur bus stand, and Stonehouse Peta areas in the city.
As per the TVC Chairman and Municipal Commissioner, under SSBs, four shops will be set up in movable containers with solar electrification facilities, drinking water, toilets, streetlights, and other facilities.
The government will also provide Rs. 2 lakh loan to the beneficiaries through the Mission of Elimination of Poverty in Municipal Areas to help them own the shop in a container.
The Commissioner stated that as per the guidelines, the government will issue a public notification inviting applications from interested persons to set up SSBs.
Vendors will be able to apply for one of the available 200 spots, and soon the city of Nellore will be enjoying cleaner, less congested streets alongside uplifted vendors.
