Coronavirus Outbreak: Guntur, Nellore Districts on High Alert

As part of preventive measures to contain the spread of the coronavirus, authorities in Guntur and Nellore districts have been placed on high alert. The state government finds this necessary as these two districts have reported the highest number of Covid-19 positive cases in the state up to Thursday.

More specifically, there was a sudden spike in these cases in both districts, with 20 people testing positive in each. Officials have linked this to the screening of more people who had attended a religious gathering in New Delhi.

To date, Guntur district has reported a total of 20 cases, with 11 occurring in a single day. In response, the civic administration has declared at least 15 out of 23 municipal divisions in the One Town area as containment zones.

Municipal Commissioner C Anuradha insists there should not be any lenience in enforcing restrictions in these areas. Meanwhile, the civil supplies department has begun door-to-door delivery of ration to households in containment zones.

In a similar response, Nellore district has reported 20 positive cases. District Collector MV Seshagiri Babu insists that they are taking all measures necessary to contain the spread and that it is not yet time to press the panic button. He adds that all the new cases are either Delhi returnees or their primary contacts.

Officials have also declared Tipper Bazaar in Mangalagiri town as a red zone after a 72-year-old resident who attended the Markaz gathering in New Delhi tested positive on Wednesday night. The man and his family members have been relocated to a quarantine centre.
