The Southern Indian state of Andhra Pradesh is committing 4.8 crore ($630,000) to relaunch a safe drinking water scheme in the district of Nellore. The scheme, called NTR Sujala Sravanthi, was originally launched in 2014-19 to provide 20 litres of safe drinking water for 2 to each household. However, the scheme was destroyed during 2019-24, says Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister P. Narayana.
The minister said that three mother water plants and 60 dispensing units would be permitted in Nellore City limits to serve the scheme. Two more mother plants and 47 dispensing units will be ready by August, according to Narayana. The minister also instructed officials to construct small drains in the city in three phases, beginning with a 15th Finance Commission fund of $11 million.
Narayana said he would fund the construction of Shaadi Manzil in Division 54 with his own money, as promised during elections. The minister stated that all promises made before the election would be fulfilled in the interest of developing Nellore city.
