Flamingo frenzy: Nellore sees dip in visitors for festival

The Flamingo festival, held annually at Sullurpeta in Nellore district, failed to draw crowds this year despite the area's rich avian heritage.

Locals and visitors alike lamented the lack of facilities and organisation, with no water provision for festival-goers.

One resident of Nellore, who asked to remain anonymous, blamed the local administration for what they saw as prioritising other events over the bird festival.

They pointed to the visit of the Chief Minister to the area on Saturday and his son, Lokesh, to Nellore and Kavali on Monday as examples of this preoccupation.

However, some tourists still enjoyed the area's natural beauty, with a respectable number of people enjoying boat rides across Pulicate Lake and plenty of interest at Nelapattu bird sanctuary.

The festival, held each year to celebrate the migration of flamingos and other bird species to the area's wildlife sanctuaries, has now finished for this year.
