Drawing over 15 lakh visitors, Rotella Panduga at Bara Shaheed Dargah in Nellore witnessed a massive throng of people from all faiths and walks of life. The festival, which usually occurs in the month of Muharram each year, saw visitors waiting in queues to offer their prayers and pay their respects to the 12 martyrs who died in battle with British troops in the 18th century.
The congregation peaked during Gandha Mahotsavam, a ritual where pilgrims exchange rotis, hence the name Rottela Panduga. This year, authorities were prepared for the massive attendance, installing CCTV cameras and establishing a command control centre exclusively for the festival. Over 2,500 police personnel were deployed for security.
YSRCP MPs Adala Prabhakar Reddy and Vemuri Prabhakar Reddy were honoured by the festival committee, and Municipal Commissioner Vikas Murmat created elaborate pilgrim amenities. On top of that, a blood donation camp was organized to enable pilgrims to donate blood and help those facing medical emergencies.
Through this massive festival, the community shows its gratitude for the blessings they have received and the gift of life. Would you like to know more about this event?
