With every sweet bite, there's always that moment of guilt that follows. But for the residents of Kovur, a bite of sweetness could be a step towards employment for the local youth.
13 years ago, the Kovur Cooperative Sugar Factory closed, leaving debts and longtime employees pending payments and without employment. It was a disappointment for the many people who sought work there. The factory once provided jobs for over 2,000 people and serviced many more in the surrounding villages. Now, proposals for the factory's land are turning that frown upside down.
Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC) has stepped in with a plan to settle the factory's debts and use the 124 acres to attract new industries to the area. Local leadership has requested the Minister for Industries and Commerce, T.G. Bharath, to prioritize the needs of the people and establish new industries to provide employment opportunities for the youth.
Let's hope that sweet talks and proposals can turn into sweetness for the people of Kovur.
