The Cyberabad police have begun setting up exclusive women help desks in order to combat crime against women. These help desks will be equipped with women police constables and officials, who will be solely dedicated to addressing women's issues and complaints. The existing reception centres under each police station will also be transformed into women's help desks, strengthening the force's commitment to ensuring women's safety.
The help desks will offer assistance and guidance beyond just accepting complaints. They will provide essential counselling and support for each individual victim and offer a software system for monitoring and updating the progress of each case.
According to the Cyberabad Police Commissioner, Ch Dwarka Tirumala Rao, the desks will be headed by women inspectors under the supervision of an additional deputy commissioner, ensuring that each case is closely monitored and properly handled with sensitivity.
The commissioner highlighted the intent behind these desks is to not only listen to complaints but to maintain continuous communication and guidance for women who have lodged complaints. These desks will provide proper direction and oversee the progress of each case, ensuring women feel both heard and protected.
The commissioner's commitment to protecting women is reflected in the statistics: in 2012, there were 72 reported cases of rape in Cyberabad, compared to 84 in 2011. Overall, crimes against women have decreased over the past year, dropping from 1,878 in 2011 to 1,642 in 2012. The police are constantly striving to decrease this number even further.
With these exclusive women help desks, the Cyberabad police are ensuring that every woman in need will have the proper resources and support to feel safe and protected.
