Hyderabad- There are over 400 "eve-teasing hotspots" in Cyberabad, according to SHE team officials. They also add that most of these hotspots are usually located at bus stops or crossroadsthe maximum number of offenders have been picked up. Identified as a major issue, the places where students hang out, like schools and colleges, are the main areas where these incidents occur.
Saleema Shaik, the in-charge of the Cyberabad SHE team, confirms that the maximum number of incidents occur at these spots and that most of the offenders are from the age group of 18 to 30 years. Furthermore, a look at the few cases handled by the SHE teams this week and in April show how cellphone stalking and cyber crimes are the two categories that received the maximum number of complaints. Many women complained of being "blackmailed" with nude photos and videos.
In the first week of May, 11 complaints from women were registered with the Cyberabad SHE teams, based on which five cases were registered and seven accused were counseled at the Crime Against Women (CAW) cell in the Cyberabad Commissionerate. In April, 86 complaints were lodged by women, out of which 12 accused were remanded to judicial custody, and 15 were counseled.
The situation is no different in the neighboring Rachakonda commissionerate, which has also identified bus stops and crossroads as places where most eve-teasing incidents occur, adding that these incidents occur at these spots round the clock. According to many officials, the eve-teasing hotspots in Rachakonda commissionerate include the LB Nagar Chowrasta and bus stop, the ECIL bus stop, Kushaiguda bus stop, and the Uppal ring road.
