Reliance Foundation Athletes Baranica Elangovan And Reegan Ganesan's 'Vault of Faith'

Reliance Foundation athletes, Baranica Elangovan and Reegan Ganesan, are making waves in the sports world. Their journey to the peak of success has been anything but easy. The athletes shed light on their challenging journeys, unwavering faith, and dreams.

Baranica Elangovan, a promising young pole vaulter from Chennai, has excelled in athletics despite the challenges she has faced. She was introduced to the world of sports by her father, Elangovan, who himself was a state-level high jumper.

Elangovan states, "I fell in love with the idea of pole vaulting when I saw it for the first time. I was fascinated by the technique, the strength, and the courage required to perform such a feat."

Despite being told that she would never make it as a pole vaulter, being a girl from a conservative family, Elangovan remained adamant about pursuing her passion. She recounts, "I vividly remember the day when my father took me to coach Sathish Sivalingam, to ask for guidance. Coach Sathish asked me to try a few basic moves with the pole. I could do them with relative ease, and that is when coach Sathish said that I have the potential to go far in this sport."

This is where Elangovan's journey in pole vaulting began, and since then, there has been no looking back for this young athlete.

Reegan Ganesan, yet another inspiring pole vaulter, exemplifies resilience and determination. Hailing from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Ganesan had a very different sporting background. He had actually started his sporting career in badminton, but shifted to athletics, and ultimately found his true calling in pole vaulting.

Ganesan reveals, "I was an avid badminton player, representing the state of Kuala Lumpur at the age of 14. However, a series of injuries forced me to take a break. That is when I decided to shift my focus to athletics."

"I tried a variety of events before finally settling for pole vaulting. It was love at first jump for me. The feeling of flying, the adrenaline rush, and the challenge of pushing myself to new heights every time, is what kept me going."

Both Ganesan and Elangovan credit their success to their coaches, who have been their pillars of support throughout their journey. They both train under the guidance of renowned pole vault coach Steven Lee Derksen, who has played a pivotal role in their growth and success.

As Elangovan and Ganesan look ahead, their future aspirations continue to drive them. They aspire to represent their country at international sporting events, with their eyes set on the Paris Olympics in 2024.

As they pursue their dreams, they both stress the importance of faith, hard work, and perseverance. Their inspiring journey is testament to the fact that with determination and hard work, any dream is achievable.

How far they go is dependent on their 'Vault of Faith', as they continue to soar to greater heights.
