A routine family trip to Kashmir turned into a nightmare for the kin of a Bengaluru-based techie, who was found dead in Srinagar with no less than 42 bullet wounds on his body.
The deceased, identified as Abdul Khaliq Gattar, had embarked on what was to be a dream holiday with his wife and two children to Kashmir, but he fell prey to the escalating cross-border tensions in the region.
On Sunday, February 19, the family was returning after sightseeing when unidentified gunmen intercepted their car near the city of Srinagar.
The gunmen allegedly forced the family out of their car, fired at Abdul Khaliq in his chest, and left him to die.
Despite his severe injuries, the 35-year-old father managed to survive until the early hours of Monday morning, when his wife, who was by his side all this time, managed to get help.
She ran to a nearby house and begged the occupants to help her get medical assistance for her critically wounded husband.
Tragically, Abdul Khaliq Gattar died en route to a hospital in Srinagar.
This shocking incident has shed light on the volatile situation in the region and raised concerns over the safety of tourists in the picturesque valley.
The incident has shocked the nation and triggered a demand for justice for the young techie and his family.
It remains to be seen what action the authorities will take to ensure the safety of visitors in the region, thereby inspiring confidence among wary travellers.
