Hyderabad police launch trafficking survivors' assistance centre

Breaking News: Hyderabad police has launched a groundbreaking initiative to combat human trafficking and provide holistic support to survivors. The newly established Anti Human Trafficking Unit - Victim Assistance Centre (AHTU-VAC) is situated in the Womens Police Station in Basheerbagh. This centre will offer critical legal advice, psychological counselling, shelter referrals, vocational assistance, and guidance on reintegrating into society to survivors of human trafficking.

The project has been collaboratively implemented with the help of two non-governmental organizations, Prajwala and My Choices Foundation, both of which have a long history of combatting trafficking in the state of Telangana. Prajwala has considerable knowledge in the rehabilitation, rescue and reintegration of trafficking survivors, whereas My Choices Foundation works towards prevention and empowering survivors.

This initiative reflects a comprehensive, multidisciplinary effort that caters to the varied needs of victims, addressing legal, psychological, and social aspects. Hyderabad Police Commissioner K. Sreenivasa Reddy expressed the centre's goal to bridge the gap between rescue and recovery for victims and pledged to collaborate with civil society organizations to ensure long-term rehabilitation. This pioneering model in Telangana is anticipated to set a benchmark for future anti-trafficking measures and provide a safe and therapeutic space for those affected.
