Cyberabad, Telangana, has seen a notable drop in crime, according to Commissioner of Police Stephen Raveendra. Announcing the annual roundup report for 2022, Raveendra revealed a 12% reduction in overall crime compared to 2021.
The Cyberabad commissioner highlighted several encouraging statistics in his address to the media. Property offences decreased by 28%, with detection and recovery rates respectively increasing by 14.6% and 10.2%. Crime against women reduced by 8.3%, while crimes against weaker sections decreased by a significant 19.8%.
However, there were also notable increases, with cheating cases up 14.99% and domestic violence cases (PITA) up 34.9%. Cyber crimes rose by 25.84%, with 4850 cases reported in 2022 compared to 2854 the previous year.
The commissioner attributed these improvements to various initiatives taken by the Cyberabad police, including the recent launch of the Telangana State Police Centre of Excellence for Cyber Safety. Raveendra expressed optimism that next year would yield even better results in curbing cyber crimes.
When discussing law and order, the Cyberabad CP spoke proudly of how the area is attracting investment and generating employment due to its low crime rate and favorable conditions for doing business. He noted the diverse industries overseen by the Cyberabad commissionarate, including IT, finance, and healthcare.
In a comprehensive statement, Raveendra gave credit to the peace and order maintained over the year without any untoward incidents and expressed gratitude for the support of Telangana's CM, who he said had provided adequate resources for policing.
