Lando Norris has warned McLaren that their Formula One title rivals have "caught up a little bit" as the Englishman boasts an impressive 69 points, sitting 5th in the driver standings.
Norris, who is looking to become the first Brit to win the F1 World Championship since Lewis Hamilton in 2019, has highlighted the importance of not getting complacent during the upcoming Hungarian Grand Prix. He believes that his rivals, including Charles Leclerc and George Russell, are quickly closing in on McLaren, following a strong performance in the French Grand Prix.
"I think if we look back at the last two or three weekends, we've not been as quick as we have been in say Monaco, or the start of the season," said Norris. "We've caught up a little bit, and other teams have caught up with us."
Piastri, who is ranked 6th in the driver standings and 83 points behind his teammate, agrees with Norris and is eager to make up ground in Hungary.
"I think if we just look at the pure pace, maybe Ferrari is back to where they were last year, and Mercedes looks like they've made a good step forward," commented Piastri. "And, you know, in the race, with the strategy, with the tires, every weekend is different. So I think we just need to stay on our game, keep developing the car, keep executing weekends like we have been, and hopefully, we can keep scoring good points."
With rain expected at this weekend's Hungarian Grand Prix, both drivers will be keen to capitalize on any slip-ups from the likes of Leclerc and Russell, who are hot on their tails.
Max Verstappen, who won the last Dutch Grand Prix in 2021, will be hoping to do the same this weekend in front of his home crowd at Zandvoort. With rain also expected, the Red Bull driver will be eager to take advantage of any slip-ups from Charles Leclerc, who currently sits at the top of the driver standings.
This weekend's Hungarian Grand Prix will certainly be an event to watch with title contenders vying to get ahead of the pack. Who will emerge victorious? Stay tuned to find out.
