'Privileged To Share Dressing Room': Ruturaj Gaikwad Leaves Heartfelt Note For R Ashwin

Chennai Super Kings skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad has shared a heartfelt tribute to Ravichandran Ashwin after his IPL retirement. The spinner announced that he would retire from all forms of cricket after the IPL 2022 season.

"Privileged to share the dressing room with you, Ashwin Guru. Always knew you were born for greatness," Gaikwad wrote on Instagram and added the hashtag #legend to his post.

The Chennai Super Kings skipper scored his maiden IPL century during the team's most recent game against the Lucknow Super Giants.

After the match, speaking at the post-match presentation, Gaikwad reserved special praise for Ashwin, who finished with figures of 3-0-24-2.

"I knew that if I play more overs, he (Ravichandran Ashwin) would trouble me more as I haven't faced him before. I knew his line and length and he was bowling in my area. I was just trying to take him down," said Gaikwad.

"After I got the century, his smile and hug meant a lot to me. He is a top-class bowler, and when an experienced bowler praises you, it gives a different feeling," he added.

The Chennai Super Kings captain thus paid a glowing tribute to Ashwin, reflecting the impact the veteran spinner had on his teammates and cricket in general.

Ashwin, who plays for the Delhi Capitals in the IPL, has spoken of a possible return to CSK in the future.

"I have had a very good time playing for CSK, and maybe another opportunity down the road in future seasons," he said.
