Cyber Crime Unit Arrests Four in Massive Online Fraud Ring Busting Operation

Operation Net Speed fractures wide-ranging fraud ring using multiple creative methods, duping victims out of lakhs.

In a significant operation against online fraud, the Cyber Crime police wing of Cyberabad arrested four persons for using multiple methods such as bulk SMS services and fake websites, duping people using the database of popular e-commerce and telemarketing companies. The arrest came after a complaint was filed in November 2019, when a victim alleged that she was contacted after making a purchase on a well-known e-commerce website and informed that she had won a lottery worth Rs 7 lakhs or a car as the winning amount. The fraudsters then extracted approximately Rs 2.3 lakhs from the victim, which she was asked to deposit in various bank accounts, claiming it was for various charges towards receiving the prize money.

The investigation unveiled the primary suspect, Sandeep, had purchased databases and facilitated the bulk message and website services through Tausif Ahmed and Vikas Kumar. Manikchand Paswan, a relative of the main accused, had also been an accomplice in contacting gullible individuals and extracting money from them. The police seized numerous items, including 12 mobile phones, 2 laptops, a car, fake identification cards, and 19 SIM cards & 4 debit cards from the accused.

This recent operation highlights the increasing sophistication of online fraud schemes and reinforces the importance of heightened awareness when it comes to cybersecurity and online financial transactions.
