Cyberabad Tackles Under-Age Driving With New Restrictions

In a bid to curb underage driving, the traffic police in Cyberabad area of Hyderabad, India, have implemented a new system that requires juvenile drivers to enroll in a safety awareness program. Within a week of implementing the program, the authorities have recorded a noticeable decrease in instances of underage driving.

The program requires minors who are caught driving to attend a four-hour long safety awareness class by an expert, where they are made aware of the dangers and consequences of driving without a legal permit. The students also learn the importance of responsible driving and the legal implications of driving without valid reason.

Following the session, the students appear for an exam and only upon passing this test are the minors allowed to get their driving license. In addition, they must also produce a no-objection certificate from their parents or guardians confirming their permission and awareness of the minor's driving.

The initiative was conceptualized and implemented by Mr. Vinod K. Kanumala, the Joint Commissioner of Police, Traffic, Cyberabad. Speaking on the initiative, Mr. Kanumala emphasized the need for such an awareness program to prevent underage driving, highlighting that the city roads are dangerous for children.

The traffic police have confirmed that since the implementation of the initiative, there has been a significant drop in the number of cases involving underage driving in the Cyberabad limits. The move has been well received by the community, with parents praising the police for taking proactive measures to prevent their children from reckless driving.

It is worth noting that the program is currently undergoing a trial run, with plans to expand its reach across all of Hyderabad in the near future. The police force is also considering ramping up surveillance and enforcement actions in the coming months.

With a fresh and innovative approach to road safety, the Cyberabad traffic police look to create a culture of responsible driving among the city's younger population, paving the way for a safer driving environment for all.
