The father of colloquial Telugu, Gidugu Ramamurthy Pantulu, is honored each year with a Telugu Language Festival in Nellore. This year, the festival will take place at the Nellore Town Hall from August 29 to 31, organized by the Seva Sahiti Cultural Organization and supported by the AL Creative and Cultural Commission. The festival aims to celebrate Telugu language and literature, featuring discussions, seminars, and forums led by prominent linguists and writers.
The festival will open on August 29 with seminars focusing on ancient, modern, and children's literature. The next day, the festival will continue with discussions on various types of literature, such as existential, youth, and women's literature. The final day will focus on literary forums discussing short stories, novels, drama, and cinema.
Throughout the festival, poetry gatherings, paper presentations, and book releases will also take place. Over 150 Telugu writers and linguists are expected to attend from various regions to participate in the event.
Nellore MP Vemireddy Prabhakar Reddy voiced his enthusiasm for the festival, stating, "Telugu is not just a medium of communication but a source of pride, affection, and a shining reflection of Indian culture."
Ramamurthy Pantulu played a significant role in popularizing Telugu in its modern form during the colonial era. He was a poet, playwright, and linguist who wrote novels and plays in Telugu. He is best known for his translation of the Bhagavad Gita from Sanskrit to Telugu.
This year's Telugu Language Festival in Nellore aims to celebrate and continue Pantulu's legacy, fostering an appreciation for the Telugu language and its importance in Indian culture.
