This year's Ganesh immersion celebration in Hyderabad, India, will be monitored with the help of cutting-edge technology, including CCTV cameras, drone surveillance, and QR code-based stickers, according to Police Commissioner CV Anand. The commissioner announced these measures during a recent review of arrangements at the Khairatabad Bada Ganesh. Anand further stated that efforts are ongoing to record the remaining idols for supervision.
To maintain safety during the festival, which is scheduled for September 6, about 30,000 police personnel will be on duty. This includes 19,000 officers from city units and 8,500 from other districts, along with 42 platoons, 10 CAPF companies, and elite Octopus teams. In case of any incidents, joint control centres have been set up at NTR Marg and Peoples Plaza, while a 24-hour command centre at TG ICCC, Banjara Hills, will track immersion activities and crowd movement.
Crane operation training is also being provided to workers to handle the potential influx of idols sustainably. Cranes will be stationed at Hussain Sagar and Mir Alam Tank, with a total of 40 expected to be in place at immersion points. Devotees attending the Khairatabad Ganesh idol, which attracts up to 70,000 visitors daily and 200,000 on weekends, will be protected from potential stampedes by reinforcing barricading, regulating queues, and enhancing surveillance.
Anand appealed to Utsav Samithi organisers to prioritise safe electrical connections, appoint volunteers for crowd management, and monitor weather conditions, especially if heavy rains occur. The commissioner emphasised the importance of collective responsibility, urging the public, devotees, and Utsav Samithi members to cooperate fully to ensure a safe, peaceful, and incident-free celebration.
This immersive festival, monitored with modern tech, is expected to be safe and peaceful for all involved.
