Accused out to rape and traumatize minor girls

Tirupati: A chilling reminder of the fragility of the lives of minor girls in rural India, a 21-year-old man was convicted of kidnapping and raping a minor girl in Theepanuru village, Nellore. Out to target minors who were left alone, the accused, Kanna Srinivasulu, was sentenced to 26 years in prison and fined Rs. 20,000.

Srinivasulu was convicted of kidnapping the minor girl when she was left alone at her residence. He took her to an isolated place near an abandoned house at Varagali Crossroad and raped her. The victim's parents and brother were away at the time.

Chillakur police registered a case after the victim's parents filed a complaint and discovered that Srinivasulu was the culprit. They found that he had taken the minor girl to an isolated place near an abandoned house at Varagali crossroads. After filing a chargesheet and seeing that the jury found charges proven, the court ordered the punishment.

This sentence sends a strong message to would-be perpetrators of such heinous crimes and aims to act as a deterrent. The court ruled that the punishment would send a message to everyone that the law protecting children against sexual offences was meant to be strictly implemented.
