Nellore district is seeing record water availability, with an estimated 100 TMCft still in reservoirs even after providing irrigation for the second crop this season. This is a significant improvement due to effective water management, affirmed Endowments Minister Anam Ramanarayana Reddy. Not a single drop should go to waste, he said, adding that the government aims to bring joy to farmers by ensuring irrigation for every crop. He urged farmers to diversify into commercial crops as well as paddy. Long-term plans include an INR 84,000 crore river-linking project involving the Krishna, Godavari, and Penna rivers. Discussions with neighboring states on water-sharing projects are underway. With Polavaram and Banakacharla projects nearing completion and Handri-Neeva nearing completion, Anam is confident that the state government stands with farmers. "Our government is committed to extending irrigation to every last acre," he affirmed.
