With hopes of boosting the state's tourism industry, the chief minister of Andhra Pradesh, Mr. Pawan Kalyan, has expressed his interest in repurposing the Rushikonda structures as a destination for MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions).
He believes this would provide an effective way to leverage the public investment which was made earlier for these structures in the region known for its beautiful beaches. During a recent press conference, the Jana Sena chief commented on the potential of these currently unused buildings. They were constructed on beachfront land in the city of Visakhapatnam with the expectation of hosting conferences and conventions to spur tourism and economic growth. Earlier, the initial investment of approximately INR 1.5 billion came from private funds with the expectation of generating returns. However, the ownership was later transferred to the state government.
Mr. Kalyan emphasized that in the same way private investors want to see a return on their investments, the government should also look to invest in projects that provide value and development. He vowed to continue to support similar projects that will benefit the people and progress the state, provided they are planned and implemented with the best interests of the people in mind.
