Harbhajan Singh Faced This Punishment For Slapping Sreesanth; Ex-IPL Chief Lalit Modi Reveals

One of the most infamous moments in IPL history was when Harbhajan Singh slapped S Sreesanth after a Mumbai Indians vs Kings XI Punjab IPL 2008 match in Mohali. The incident resulted in an eight-game IPL ban for Harbhajan Singh. It also led to a massive controversy as Singh was considered one of the most loved cricketers in India. Former IPL chief Lalit Modi took to Twitter and revealed the punishment details.

Former IPL commissioner Lalit K. Modi tweeted that Singh was slapped with an eight-match IPL ban and a fine of $50,000 (Rs 3.55 crore as of 2020) for the infamous incident.

"Since 2010, I have not been a part of the BCCI or IPL nor have I been involved in the administration of the game in any way. The incident occurred in 2008 and the proceedings below speak for themselves," Modi's tweet read.

In a separate tweet, the former IPL chief also claimed that the punishment to Singh was uplifted to a three-match ban and Rs. 500,000 fine after the cricketer decided to appeal against the initial verdict.

"He appealed to the appellate authority of the BCCI and the sanction was reduced to 3 matches and Rs 500,000 fine on the grounds that his actions were not intentional," Lalit Modi tweeted.
