Young woman trapped in rape aftermath, parents struggle to retrieve crucial data from sons phone

The Hyderabad police have suspended three of its officers after a rape victim's family complained about the manner in which the investigation into the case was being handled. According to the police, the victim, a 20-year-old woman, was raped on December 28 last year, by her cousin Arif who was living in the US.

The woman had gone to receive Arif, who was visiting India after several years, along with her family. "I don't know the new password. I tried resetting the password, but the OTP was going to my sisters mobile that remained switched off. I was again clueless," she shared in her interaction with Mirror.

The woman's family has alleged that vital clues on Arif's mobile could be destroyed as they failed to unlock his phone. They filed a complaint with the Hyderabad Police Commissioner's office, following which, three officers of the SR Nagar police station were placed under suspension.

"They (the family) alleged that we were not cooperating. We will check if any other officer has done something wrong," said a senior official. The police mentioned in their remand report that Arif had given her his mobile number in his bid to gain her confidence. The accused is currently in judicial custody.
