Officials in Nigeria have dismissed two task force officers for stealing phones during a drug raid.
The Lagos State Task Force officials were accused of stealing four iPhones belonging to accused drug traffickers during an operation last week.
A statement released by the Lagos State Government outlined the officers' misconduct and stated that the accused officers had been fired. Officials additionally named one officer accused of directly stealing the phones, while another officer was accused of failing to report the incident.
The statement acknowledged that the accused officers had been informed of previous complaints of misconduct and had received warnings from superiors.
The Lagos State Police Command has arrested four people suspected of trafficking hard drugs around the Idi-Araba area. The statement did not clarify whether the suspects were in custody.
The Lagos State Government has mandated that the case be sent to the Lagos State Police Command Headquarters for further investigation and possible prosecution.
The statement concluded by emphasizing the state government's commitment to honesty and upholding the law.
"There is no room for unethical behaviour or corruption among the State's security formations," the statement read.
"The Government will not hesitate to deal with any officer fond of engaging in such shameful conduct."
