A recent drug bust in the South Okanagan resulted in an unexpected twist when a nine-month-old baby was found in the car of the suspects. This incident raises questions about the parents' awareness of the potential dangers their child faced due to their lifestyle.
It was a routine drug bust in a Penticton parking lot that landed a 25-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman in custody. However, upon searching the vehicle, officers discovered something unexpected: a baby was present in the back seat. This shocking discovery turned into a bittersweet outcome for the family. According to reports, the child is now in the care of a grandparent, a result of what officials call a 'joint decision' between the parents and the authorities.
It isn't every day that an infant is rescued from drug dealers, but police say this is not the first time officers have had to make such a bust. It was a decision that probably saved the child's life, says one officer, who added that the parents' lifestyle puts the baby at risk.
The drug bust has resulted in 14 grams of cocaine being taken off the streets and an additional charge of possessing the proceeds of crime. Officers searched a home in Olalla, where the drug operation was based, and found drug paraphernalia.
