In a recent development, the Amritsar Rural Police in Punjab, India, has cracked down on cross-border drug trafficking and illegal monetary transactions. They have arrested three individuals identified as Ranjit Singh alias Rana, Gurdev Singh alias Gedi, and Shailendra Singh alias Selu, and seized 500gm of heroin, a Glock 9mm pistol (with 2 magazines), and Rs 33 lakh in hawala money.
According to the DGP of Punjab Police, Gaurav Yadav, the accused individuals are part of a massive narco-hawala network. He highlighted that the police authorities had also recovered firearms and a substantial amount of cash, which were reportedly intended for illegal activities.
This recent action coincides with the Punjab Police's ongoing efforts to combat organized crime and illicit activities under the guidance of the state's Chief Minister, Bhagwant Singh Mann. In an earlier operation, the Anti-Gangster Task Force of the Punjab Police successfully intercepted the activities of the Lawrance Bishnoi-Rohit Godara gang, led by Jashandeep Singh alias Jashan Sandhu and Gursewak Singh, and recovered a .32 calibre pistol and seven cartridges.
The police authorities are currently attempting to identify and investigate the network's forward and backward linkages to prevent and disrupt any potential criminal activities. These recent actions demonstrate the Punjab Police's commitment to dismantling narco-terrorism and maintaining public safety in the region. (ANSI)
