Young Women in Bathinda No Longer Feel Safe from Eve-Teasing

Judging from the number of reported incidents, omnipresent eve-teasing in Bathinda is proving that the city is fast becoming one of the most unsafe places for women.

Recently, a girl shouted for help after three young men attempted to kidnap her in broad daylight near Fouji Chowk a busy intersection. The would-be perpetrators fled the scene after witnesses gathered around the victim. Remarkably, two police posts are located near this intersection, but the officers failed to make any arrests.

The area around Ajit Road, an educational hub with numerous coaching institutes, has also seen a slew of eve-teasing cases. A group of young men on motorbikes abuses and stalks girls here.

A girl filed a complaint with the police after four men in a car made indecent gestures at her and her friend while they were driving through Ajit Road.

Pooja, an ITI student, states that boys on motorbikes often stalk girls and harass them. She says that many eve-teasing cases have been reported from this area in the past, but fear of social stigma prevents most victims from reporting these incidents to the police.

SSO Naveen Singla claims that the police have initiated strict action in such cases, insisting that no one would be spared.
