Health screenings on the rise in Tirunelveli district

Medical camps target health disparities with screening and specialized care

Recent health initiatives in Tirunelveli district are striving toward equitable healthcare access.

Four intensive medical camps, named 'Nalam Kaakkum Stalin', operated by the Department of Health aimed at providing holistic health services to the underserved, screened 7,057 persons so far.

The initiative provides specialist care for numerous medical conditions, with 82 referrals for more detailed and specialized treatment, including cardiology, oncology, and diabetology.

The camps offer robust screening services for diabetes, cholesterol, and hypertension, as well as illness-specific screenings for cancer, diabetes, and heart disease.

Doctor referrals, medicine dispersal, and follow-up care for camp attendees are underway, with plans to host similar camps in different areas of the district.

"Health equity means that all individuals have access to the health services they need, when and where they need them, without facing barriers due to social, geographic, economic, language, or cultural factors,"

said Selva, the district medical officer of Tirunelveli.

The initiative sets a landmark standard for public health efforts and underscores the importance of accessibility in healthcare.

With the ongoing specialist referrals and follow-up care, the camps have made a difference in the lives of many individuals and families in Tirunelveli district.
