In the wake of the Pahalgam attack, security drills are being conducted at railway stations to ensure safety. After the tragic incident that took place on April 22, security units in Nellore district, India, conducted a joint inspection at the Nellore Railway Station. The inspection covered every corner of the station, including platforms, trains, and the parcel office.
The drill involved 100 personnel from various security forces, including the Railway Protection Force (RPF), Government Railway Police (GRP), Maharashtra Security Force (MSF), and Home Guards. Daily checks are being conducted, and passengers are being screened, with every passenger and piece of luggage undergoing thorough inspection.
The Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) in Mumbai also participated in a mock drill, involving the joint operation of RPF, GRP, and MSF personnel. They screened passengers and trains and conducted thorough checks across the station. Such drills are part of the routine security protocol, but given the current heightened alert, they are being conducted with an extra level of caution.
The Union Home Ministry has also asked states to conduct mock drills to test the effectiveness of civil defence. The measures involved included operationalising air raid warning sirens, training civilians on defence aspects, and assessing the functionality of control rooms. The mock drills are being conducted to ensure the preparedness of evacuation plans and their execution in the event of a hostile attack.
With the rise in terrorist activities, authorities are being cautious to avoid such tragic incidents.
Authorities are urging the government to take strict action against the perpetrators of the Pahalgam attack.
Drills and inspections will continue to ensure the safety of commuters.
