Heavy rainfall alert issued for Telangana on Tuesday, with the Cyberabad Police advising companies to consider working from home amid concerns over traffic congestion, public safety, and uninterrupted emergency services. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert, indicating heavy to very heavy rainfall, for 18 districts and a yellow alert for the possibility of heavy rain for six others. With thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds also forecast, the Cyberabad Police issued a public advisory urging IT companies in the region to work from home as a safety precaution. The advisory stated, "An alert has been issued for heavy rains in the Cyberabad area. Considering the safety, productivity, traffic congestion, and to ensure uninterrupted emergency services, the companies may consider following Work from Home (WFH) mode on Tuesday."
The forecast for the next 24 hours in Hyderabad and surrounding areas indicates a generally cloudy sky with a high chance of moderate to heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and gusty winds, especially in the evening or at night. Temperatures are expected to range between 23 degrees Celsius (minimum) and 31 degrees Celsius (maximum).
Cyberabad Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Dr Gajarao Bhupal also posted on social media, "We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in this matter," he wrote, warning residents to expect moderate to heavy rain with thunderstorms in the evening or night and advising people to plan travel accordingly.
The monsoon season often brings heavy rain, causing traffic disruptions and challenges in getting around the city. The authorities' timely alert and proactive approach, in this case, IT companies advising employees to work from home, aim to minimize any potential impact on traffic congestion, public safety, and uninterrupted emergency services in the state.
It will be interesting to see if these proactive measures will become a model for other cities facing similar weather conditions moving forward.
