Minister Ponguru Narayana Slams Previous Government for Neglecting Drinking Water Schemes

Minister of Municipal Administration and Urban Development, Ponguru Narayana has launched a scathing attack on the previous YSR Congress Party government, accusing them of neglecting drinking water schemes initiated by the previous TDP administration.

While speaking at the inauguration of the NTR Sujala Sravanthi Protected Drinking Water Scheme (NTR SSPDWS) by the Adani Foundation in Jagadesh Nagar, Nellore Municipal Corporation, the minister revealed that the TDP had launched 7 mother plants and 60 small plants under NTRSSPDWS between 2014-2019, intending to supply 2 lakh liters of water to 2 lakh families each 20 liters for just Rs 2.

Narayana accused the previous government of dropping these schemes solely for political reasons, reflecting the tendency of political parties to prioritize their own interests over those of the people. He further revealed that after the YSRCP came to power in 2019, they abandoned these initiatives. However, with the return of the coalition government, projects like this have once again gained traction.

The minister outlined the government's plans to invest Rs 165 crores, alongside an additional Rs 20 crores soon, in these schemes, with a projected completion date of 2025 December.

He asserted that schemes to supply drinking water and improve underground drainage (UGD) in Nellore city, worth Rs 550 crores, were also neglected during the YSRCP administration but are now back on track.

He expressed his disappointment with the previous government's lack of consideration for the needs of the people, emphasizing that the current government is working to address these issues.

Conclusion:

Minister Ponguru Narayana's speech highlighted the damaging effects of political opportunism on the provision of essential services. The previous government's decision to neglect and abandon previous initiatives underscores the prioritization of short-term political gains over the long-term well-being of the population.

The current government's commitment to reviving these schemes, coupled with their allocation of significant funds for these projects, signals a positive step towards addressing crucial water and drainage issues in Nellore.

As Minister Narayana emphasized, these initiatives are crucial in ensuring the provision of basic necessities for the people and indicating a potential shift towards a more people-centric approach in governance.
