Brendan Taylor Makes History, Becomes Just Third Zimbabwe Batter To...

Zimbabwe batsman Brendan Taylor made history in the second ODI against Sri Lanka on Wednesday, becoming the third Zimbabwean to ever reach 10,000 career runs.

Taylor achieved the milestone in the eighth over of the Zimbabwe innings, after accruing 34 runs to go from 9,996 to 10,030, and putting him alongside compatriots Andy Flower and Grant Flower as the nation's finest batters.

Despite posting a solid 77 off 97 balls in a chase of 287, Taylor's effort was not enough to prevent a seven-wicket defeat at the hands of the visitors, keeping the series alive at 1-1.

Speaking after the game, the veteran right-hander expressed his pride in achieving the personal landmark, while insisting that he was disappointed with his team's inability to secure the series.

"It's an amazing achievement, one that I'm proud of, but it would have been better if we had won the game," said Taylor.

"I have never been one for personal milestones, and this would mean so much more if we could win the series. We had our chances, but we let it slip."

The two teams are due to meet again on Friday in the third and final ODI, with the series poised at 1-1.
