Young women in Bathinda, India, are facing a tidal wave of sexual harassment, with shocking reports of increasingly violent attempts at abduction and assaults in broad daylight. One victim, Giddarbaha-based girl, was nearly kidnapped near Fouji Chowk, with the culprits fleeing only due to a crowd that had gathered in response to her screams for help. Despite the proximity of two police posts, the perpetrators remain at large.

Another incident involved a group of four young men who chased two girl students on foot all the way to Fire Brigade Chowk, where they verbally assaulted them with lewd comments. Just a few months ago, a girl filed a report with the police after four unidentified men in a car made indecent gestures at her and her friend on Ajit Road, an area known for its numerous coaching institutes.

Unfortunately, many similar incidents go unreported, with victims often too afraid of potential violence or social stigma to seek help from authorities. As one student, Pooja, succinctly puts it, there are plenty of young men on motorbikes who follow girls, harass them, and sometimes even assault them.

While the local police have initiated strict action against perpetrators of such heinous acts, the wave of sexual harassment continues to rise, leaving many young women afraid to walk the streets in fear of their safety.
